Day 1 : Kathmandu-Lubhu
After an early breakfast, we ride through the back streets of Kathmandu and out past green fields to Bungamati. This ancient town dates back to the 7th century and has a rich history of art and architecture. From Bungamati we turn south, heading up a jeep track through rich forest to the small village of Champi. Champi affords a beautiful view of the southwest section of Kathmandu Valley. A rough section of downhill and uphill for 15 minutes brings us to the village of Chapagaon, where we stop south of town to visit the Vajra Varahi temple nestled in a sacred grove of trees.
We arrive in Lubhu, a Newari village known for its weaving, and overnight in a farmhouse.
Day 2 : Lubhu-Dhulikhel
Today we bike uphill to Lake Bhanjyang and are rewarded for our efforts with a beautiful view over the Kathmandu Valley. We have an easier stretch heading down along the river to Panauti, another Newari village. From Panauti we descend on a paved road to the town of Dhulikhel and overnight at a lodge.
Day 3 : At Dhulikhel
We spend the day around Dhulikhel and make an excursion by bike and foot to Namo Buddha, a Buddhist pilgrimage site, and Banepa, home of the Chandeshwori temple. Overnight at our lodge.
Day 4 : Dhulikhel-Nagarkot
After breakfast we head north to Nagarkot past terraced hillsides and with the towering peaks of the Himalayas in view. Keep an eye out for a variety of birds in this region. We arrive at Nagarkot, set on the valley rim. We climb to the summit and are rewarded with a panoramic view of the snow-topped peaks of the Himalayas, with the pyramid summit of Mt Everest in the distance. We stay overnight in a beautiful guesthouse on the ridge.
Day 5 : Nagarkot-Kathmandu via Changu Narayan
If it’s a clear morning, we’ll be able to enjoy the spectacular sunrise on Mt Everest from Nagarkot. We then start our day’s journey with an exhilarating descent on jeep tracks, passing many rustic villages. On a clear day, the Himalayas are in view on our right as we descend. We stop at the Changu Narayan temple, one of the oldest Hindu temples in the valley and dedicated to Vishnu. Afterward, we descend from the ridge for an exhilarating downhill ride to Kathmandu.
